“Our Story”
Founded by eye care professional and entrepreneur Dr. John Hersey in 2003, Hersey EyeCare has grown to be one of the most trusted practices in central Maine. It all began in 2003 in Palmyra, and has grown to include offices in Bangor, Hermon, and Winterport.
We at Hersey EyeCare put the patient first and want to make the experience here as pleasant as possible. We want to make it easy for our patients to get the care they need and acquire the eye products they want. We believe it is possible to be both convenient and affordable all while providing the best state-of-the-art eye care. It’s just what family does.

I love Dr. Gilmore and she is great at what she does! My husband and I both had appointments back to back recently and it was his first time seeing her. He could not agree more with me! She is the only Dr. that has really listened to my concerns about changes in my eyes and takes her time finding the best adjustments when testing is done. She and her staff are so pleasant and professional and her office is in network with our University of Maine insurance. She will be our provider until she retires as far we are concerned! As a new patient of Dr. Hersey’s in Palmyra, I don’t want to start this new year without letting him know that I appreciate being taken in as a new patient and treating/evaluating my pre existing condition of keratoconus.
